The Visual BIOS on NUCs is pretty easy to update.

Steps:
Create firmware upgrade USB stick
Format a USB stick with the FAT filesystem
Download the latest BIOS firmware from Intel (named similar to wy0054.bio)
the same firmware file can apply to various models, but be SURE to use the correct firmware for your hardware

Copy the .BIO file to the USB stick you formatted
You can copy multiple BIOS firmware files to the same stick; just be sure you can tell them apart when you need to use them!
If you are doing a BIOS recovery, you must have just the ONE file on the USB stick
Update the firmware on the NUC to the latest version
Power off the NUC
Insert the USB firmware stick you created
Boot the NUC to the Visual BIOS menu (press F2 at the boot prompt)
Compare the version of BIOS with the version you downloaded
Click Update, don't check using the Internet, and find the file on the USB stick
Click Open, and confirm the upgrade
Be patient as the system update the firmware and reboots a couple times
After any BIOS update, Intel recommends the following steps:
Press F2 during start to enter BIOS Setup
Press F9 to set BIOS default values
Customize any BIOS settings, if desired (optional)
Press F10 to save and exit BIOS Setup
